Before Easter break, Montessori students began learning about the Last Supper. When they do this work, they pass the bread and say the words that Jesus spoke: "Take, this is my body."
#HolyThursday #LastSupper #Montessori #Triduum #HolyEucharist

Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me." ~ Luke 22:19
Please join our Together in Christ faith community for services today:
HOLY THURSDAY – April 17th
[Mass of the Lord's Supper at Our Lady of Peace, 7 PM.
The evening Mass on Holy Thursday begins the Sacred Triduum. On this night we remember the Last Supper and celebrate the institution of the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Holy Orders. At the end of the liturgy, the sanctuary is stripped clean in preparation for the most somber of feasts, Good Friday.
Family Faith Activity: Talk about how Jesus is really present in holy Communion and how sharing in his body strengthens us to become the Body of Christ and to follow him each day.

Grade 2 created "pollinators" using pompoms & pipe cleaners in Science recently. The pollinators visited different "flowers" & spread the pollen (crushed cheese puffs). Students discussed why certain pollinator designs worked better than others.

Our "Healthy Steps" walking club began last week! After school, students made teddy bear snacks using rice cakes, peanut butter, bananas, blueberries & a few chocolate chips. Then each class put on their pedometers & walked a mile to get their healthy steps in!

Grade 2 had an "egg-mazing" time before they went on Easter break! An egg hunt, frosting cookies, eating delicious treats & making cool creations using the spinning egg decorator made their class party a hit with all!

🐇🐣🌷 Miss Gon's Kindergarten class had some sweet Easter fun last week! Students discovered clues around the school (from the Easter Bunny himself!) that led them to an egg hunt in their classroom. They made an Easter craft together, then said their before meal prayers & had "The Last Snack" together as a class. They shared snack foods symbolic of Holy Week, Jesus's crucifixion & Resurrection.

“Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest” (Mt 21:8).
Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter, commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem to celebrate Passover before his death as recounted in the Gospels.

🐰🌷Our 2nd graders are working on job applications... to be the Easter Bunny's helpers! Students chose whether they wanted to apply to be candy makers, egg decorators, egg fillers, or egg hiders, & give justification as to why they're right for that job. How cute!

Happy Feast Day of St. Gemma, especially to those SMS students in Miss Kirwan's St. Gemma Faith Family!
St. Gemma was an Italian mystic, called the “Daughter of the Passion” because of her profound imitation of the Passion of Christ & experience of the stigmata, or wounds of Christ. Gemma wished to become a nun, but her poor health prevented her from being accepted. She offered this disappointment to God as a sacrifice. Though quiet & reserved, she always had a smile for everyone. Her symbol is a lily, symbolizing purity. She is the patron saint of students & pharmacists.
Feast Day: April 11
Symbol: Lily
Faith Families are groups of students, each represented by a Saint & led by one of our teachers. These mixed-grade-level groups sit together at school Masses, take turns leading the liturgy, & work together for special projects & events like Catholic Schools Week, Spirit Week & our end of year HSA Picnic.

Our 8th grade class led us in the Stations of the Cross last Friday after school Mass. Praying the Stations during Lent is an excellent way to remind students of the story of Jesus’ Passion, but they are also doing more than just re-telling a story. When students participate in the Stations of the Cross, they are spiritually participating in the event that lies at the heart of Christianity.

👤 Mrs. Picone's 1st graders went on a shadow hunt yesterday afternoon for Science! They had to draw the shadows they found, identify the light source, & predict which object was casting the shadow.

🐝 🌷 🐜 🧺 Our Kindergarten class has been thinking Spring & exploring some of the buzzing and crawling insects that come with it! Miss Gon's students learned all about bees last week, & are practicing their writing skills this week making these adorable ant posters! What would you bring on a picnic if there weren't snowflakes outside today?

¡Una lección deliciosa! Mrs. Hammond's grade 7 & 8 Spanish students ended their food unit by creating menus & presenting restaurant skits. They also made food to share for extra credit, including fruta con Tajin, flan, churros, pico de gallo, & guacamole!

🐜 Mrs. Witkowski's grade 3 scientists were so excited to set up an ant farm last week! The students will be observing how this amazing colony of harvester ants behave in a group & form tunnels to gather food. Great job 3rd grade!
