Our Montessori friends went to Art today with Mrs. Genovese and made Christmas stockings in preparation for St. Nicholas Day tomorrow! They used a variety of materials like cut ribbon, markers, cotton balls, and cut paper.

SMS parents - don't forget to send your students in with their envelopes and shopping money for the "Merry Moose" Christmas Shop, running Dec. 6-8!

SMS students began the first week of Advent today by gathering in the gym for morning prayer and announcements. The Advent candle was lit by our principal, Mrs. D'Angelo, and the students will continue to come together daily to start their day with prayer until Christmas!

Miss Kerwin’s 4th grade class learned about Native American culture during November. They began research on their Longhouse projects and wove Wampum Belts. Belts made of wampum were used to mark agreements between peoples, including the Haudenosaunee. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth

The first snow of the year is always magical, especially when you're a kid! ❄️☃️✨These early '90's SMS students look like they're about to have some fun (or mischief) in the snow in this pic!Tag any #alumni you might recognize! #throwbackthursday #stmarys175

The classic game of BINGO is a great way to learn through play! Some of our Montessori students are shown here playing the multi-step game to learn procedures and photo recognition. #MontessoriMoment

Miss Reeves' physical science students explored chemical reactions this morning by making hot chocolate. They discussed the reactants, products, made a model of the reaction and made inferences about the solubility of the cocoa mix if they used cold water instead of hot water.

Our Kindergarten participated in a Nativity Scavenger Hunt this morning with Mrs. Egleston. They discussed the real reason for Christmas and each student was proudly showing off the Nativity scene they made. Our children are so blessed to be able to learn about Jesus' birth in school!

Here is one of the multi-step process activities our Montessori students have the ability to work on each day. For this activity, they need to fill the water & soap, wash the animal, dump out the “dirty” water and then clean up all the materials! #MontessoriMoment

At our Tues. edition of school Mass led by grade 7, Fr. Joe drove home the point that words are nothing without actions to back them, even words of thanksgiving. He also had some really cool vestments on in honor of the feast of The Presentation of Mary! #feasts #thanksgiving
