Mrs. Wojtaszek's 2nd graders shared their Paper Bag Autobiographies last week in order to learn about each other! Each student brought in 5 things that best described their interests or family in their paper bag, then shared these items & why they were important to them with the class. What interesting students we have!

Our students were “sorted” into their 2025-2026 Faith Families today! Faith Families are the house system at SMS, comprised of groups of students represented by a saint & led by one of our teachers. These mixed-grade-level groups sit together at Mass, take turns leading the liturgy, & work together for special projects & events like Catholic Schools Week, Spirit Week & the HSA Picnic. Mrs. Baker's 4th graders are ready to start their novel study of "The Eyes & the Impossible" by Dave Eggers on Monday! They got a sneak peek of the title & cover art, then had to make predictions on the plot & characters based on what they knew. They also drew some new cover art to illustrate their predictions.

Today we celebrated the feast day of one of our SMS Faith Family Saints, St. Teresa of Calcutta. St. Teresa was especially active in the slums of Calcutta, India. She spent her life helping the sick and the poor. She studied nursing and founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious order of women dedicated to serving the poor. Her order opened schools for children and centers to treat the blind, the disabled, the old, and the dying. She received many awards for her work including the Nobel Peace Prize. Pope Francis I declared Mother Teresa a saint in 2016.
Faith Families are groups of students, each represented by a Saint and led by one of our teachers. These mixed-grade-level groups sit together at school Masses, take turns leading the liturgy, and work together for special projects and events like Catholic Schools Week, Spirit Week & our end of year HSA Picnic. Students will find out which Faith Family they are in for the 2025-2026 school year next week!

Finding Common Ground in Grade 3
This week, SMS 3rd graders participated in a fun activity called “Find Common Ground.” Working in small groups, students could only use index cards with written facts they shared in common to build towers. Along the way, they practiced critical thinking & cooperative learning, while also learning new & surprising things about each other. Not only did they work hard to construct sturdy towers, but they also built stronger friendships & classroom connections!
